Message:

Recently a very good article was posted in "Gulf News" about cost of living and other elements that a new comer should consider before taking the final step to the UAE.

About salaries: If you have house rent and other allowences taken care of (such as health expenses, education of the children), you can consider 20.000 dirhams (and more) a very good salary.
Anything between 10.000-20.000 is considered moderate payment.

Less than 10.000 is little, even if the above benefits are added. This can suit only for the first two years in Dubai, provided that you are still in your twenties.

Living in other emirates can cost less. For example rent (as an indicative) in Abu Dhabi can cost 30% less, in Sharjah and Ajman 40% less, in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah 50% less (all compared to Dubai).

About vacations: Number of Public holidays are 11 days (including religious days). Number of annual vacation days that an employee usually is no less than 30 calendar days by law, but may be more according to employment contract.

Regards,

Hrach
