:. Sponsoring children in the UAE

Sent by: Maria

Message:

Are there any restrictions in sponsoring children in the UAE? Can a mother sponsor her own children?

Till what age children are subject to sponsorship?

Maria

Reply:

As a mother you have full legal custody of the children as the government of Dubai will not allow you to sponsor your children for residence, unless you can prove that you are legally their guardian 100%.  If not, written permission from their father may also be needed in order to allow you to sponsor them for residence there.

Also, please note that a parent can only sponsor a child to live in the UAE upto the age of 18 - not further.  Beyond that he/she must have a job and be sponsored by the employer, or have valid legal proof that he/she is still a student at a university at Undergraduate (Bachelors level).  This means notarised letters from the University, stamped by the relevant Greek and UAE authorities.  This is not required for visits as Greek-passport holders can enter without a visa for a stay of not more than 30 days at a time.

Let me know if you require any further information or assistance.

Yours sincerely,
Eugenia
