15 thousand tourist visas are issued by the Embassy of Greece in 2014
The number of visas issued by the Embassy of Greece has grown 40% during the past year, reaching 15 thousand visas.
Ambassador of Greece Dionysios Zois said that this increase indicates the interest shown by people living in the UAE towards Greece, a country with varied tourism capabilities and immense ability in satisfying different tourists.
The Ambassador was attending the 2nd Greek Deluxe Travel Roadshow in Dubai on 25 February 2015, jointly organized by Rollerdeck Associates and Amuse Concept Events, in cooperation with Emirates Airlines, under the auspices of Marketing Greece.
The campaign aims at promoting various tourism destinations in Greece and informing the Destination Managing Companies, Tour Operators, Travel Agents and Media Representatives about the Greek tourism product and the developments in the tourism market in the wake of the economic changes taking place in Greece.
Michael Vrettakis, Director of the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs in the Embassy of Greece said that the number of Greek companies registered in the UAE has reached 200. He added that the volume of the trade exchange between the two countries has recorded 438 million euros in 2013, a figure which is not satisfactory. According to him there is a need to explore more ways to increase this volume. He also mentioned that the number of the Greek companies annually participating in different Dubai based exhibitions has surpassed 300.
Katerina Polatou, Head of Airline Marketing at Athens International Airport underlined that the number of incoming foreign tourist to Greece has recorded an increase of 29%, while the number of tourists coming to Greece from the UAE has increased 33%. She added that there are currently more than 22 weekly flights between UAE and Greece, including 7 weekly flights by Emirates Airlines (to be increased to 14 flights in the Summer) and 7 weekly flights by Etihad Airways, expected to increase to 11 flights in the coming period.
According to the estimation of the Greek Union of Air Travel Agencies the number of tourists arriving Greece during this year will increase to 21.5 million, including tourists arriving by sea, with an increase of 1,4 million compared to the last year (2014).
